About Wilkstone
Wilkstone traces its roots back 100 years to founder, George Wilkinson, whose ancestors had worked as stone cutters and stone masons in England. George started in business in Westfield, NJ; and was known in Central New Jersey. Later the business was expanded to include terrazzo on larger public and private facilities, schools and airports in the Metropolitan area. George obtained a US patent in 1963 for a terrazzo floor finishing machine which he invented and which the company still uses today.
After David Wilkinson joined his father in 1952, they started doing more commercial projects and David pursued interior and exterior marble and stone, ceramic tile and terrazzo. Today Wilkstone is known in the industry for its high end, prestigious stone and marble work and has expanded in include restoration and maintenance of stone, marble and terrazzo; all primarily in Manhattan. While David passed away in 2024, William F. Torres, the President of Wilkstone, continues to provide the expertise and experience Wilkstone is known for.
Wilkstone’s specialty remains monumental lobbies and plazas and includes such notable projects as One Bryant Park (the New York headquarters of The Bank of America) which received the Natural Stone Institute Pinnacle Award of Merit, Goldman Sachs World Headquarters, 7 World
Trade Center (the first replacement skyscraper for the buildings destroyed on 9/11), 1 Vanderbilt, 55 Water Street, Foley Square Federal Office Building and The Waldorf Astoria.
Other noteworthy public facilities on which Wilkstone has performed work include The Frick Collection, The Morgan Library, The Carnegie Mansion which houses the Cooper Hewitt Design Museum, NY Public Library, Museum of Modern Art, Metropolitan Museum of Art, Museum of Arts & Design, Hispanic Museum of Art, Carnegie Hall, Zankel Hall, NY Botanical Gardens, Bronx Zoo and The United Nations.
Other large scale projects would include the main terminal of the Delta Terminal B at La Guardia Airport, Denver International Airport, The Denver Public Library, Javits Convention Center, World Bank Headquarters in Washington, DC and Hudson Yards (15, 20, 55 & Tower C).
Some high end retail clients Wilkstone has worked for include Bergdorf Goodman, Lord & Taylor, Valentino, Dulce & Gabana, Tiffany (in Soho), Bvlgari, Armani, Tourneau and Celine.
